Karen Laborde

Studio #2

BIO

With each canvas I start work by writing phrases from short stories I’ve written. Then, pieces small and large like old keys, small envelopes, wire and screen, torn cloth and plastic. Mining even junior high scrapbooks from my Japanese pen pal Harumi’s rice paper. And paint—acrylic, gels, gloss and matte. Supplies—brushes, sponges, charcoal, #2H pencils. A wasp trying to build a home in an ink bottle. Visual expression with the meaning of words. The text and texture of life.
